Ricmotech World Challenge Season 6 Wrap-up

The World Challenge completed its Season 6 on April 17th at none other than Sebring International Raceway. What an exciting finale these Drivers put on for their final event, one certainly worth going back and watching.

Although Palikui Grant in the GTP class stole the first three wins of the season it was Shane Larson who entered the finale with a 7 point lead over his competitor for the championship. After a hard fought battle in the finale and mistakes plaguing several of the GTP drivers it was Shane Larson from The Wrong Stuff Race Team that was able to capture his first championship at XMS Racing and did it during his inaugural season in the series. Marlon Jones and Steven May went it to the final tied each with 153 points in a battle for third with it ultimately going to Tom Pichette who was able to pull off a Finale Victory putting him on the podium in the Season 6 championship.

Over in GT3 PRO class the season started out with series veteran Travis Schwenke capturing wins in 3 of the first 4 races. But, bad luck would fall with two tough finishes outside the top 5 allowing Mike Dam to then take over the points lead. Iago Moraes from Brazil who was stellar in qualifying all season, went into the finale with 3rd place pretty much locked up. Jennifer McDonald would leave her mark on the season by capturing here first ever win in Pro Class at Road America. With Travis Schwenke and Mike Dam both toting 3 wins on the season and Travis not able to make the finale Mike Dam needed to just stay out of trouble and that he did bringing home the win and adding another championship title to his shelf.

In GT3 AM class the finale painted quite a picture as 2nd place driver in the championship, and rookie to the series, Dre Divac is behind the leader Baron Glover by just 11 points. Back in third Jeff Jacobs was sitting back from Divac by 7 points and would need a lot of help to be able to take over second in the championship. As it turned out it was Dre Divac with a textbook drive capturing the win but not able to quite close enough as Baron Glover finished 5th and took the championship by just 7 points over Divac. Jeff Jacobs would bring home 3rd 9 points back from 2nd.

The season was filled with excitement, some ups and downs a few spills but a whole lot of action and memorable moments. There was one driver this season that exemplifies this award via excellent racecraft and professionalism on and off the track. After J-Mac captured her first Pro win at Road America it was only fitting that here season be capped off with the Season 6 "Most Improved Driver Award"

The series is not letting off the throttle as we get underway once again in just a few weeks on May 8th at Road Atlanta. We appreciate all of you who participated this season and hope to see all of you back for Season 7!
